HISTORY

SOCITEC (Société pour le Commerce International et les échanges Techniques), was founded on 1st August 1962 as a private limited company with registered capital of 3,000 Euros. In late 1969, Socitec was transformed into a simplified joint-stock company with registered capital of 15,000 Euros, and it now has registered capital of 800,000 Euros.

Initially, SOCITEC devoted itself to representing mainly North American manufacturing industries in France, developing top-end products that did not exist on the French market. So originally, the main line of business was the distribution of electro-mechanical and mechanical parts such as tachogenerators, speed reducers, torque motors, and shock and vibration absorbers..

Since 1978, SOCITEC has manufactured metal suspensions with outstanding mechanical characteristics (major shock absorption, endurance and reliability, no ageing, the ability to withstand harsh chemical, mechanical and thermal environments, etc.)..

The shock and vibration line of business was grouped together under the wing of the SOCITEC Vibrations Division based at Sartrouville (Yvelines). All of the administrative, technical and sales departments, as well as the manufacturing workshop, are located there.

SOCITEC has formed an integral part of the BMP Group since 11 January 2001.

Organisation

- Technical Sales Department

Our customer approach is based on a partnership that begins far upstream, based on advice and expertise provided throughout projects. The services we provide include helping with expressing specifications, drawing up mechanical environment specifications, and drafting the supporting file for the definition and validation of tests as part of qualification.

A team of mechanical engineers is available to provide the quickest possible response to all your requirements in relation to the definition and selection of the suspension best suited to your needs. Our sales assistants will provide you with information about the administrative management of sales.

You can contact the following depending on where you are located:
• Our offices at Sartrouville for the French and export markets.
• Our office in Germany for the German and Austrian markets.
• The agents in our distribution network: South Africa, Denmark, Spain, India, Israel, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Singapore.

- Study and Development Department

Structural calculation using finite elementsThe large number of the patents held by Socitec since its foundation demonstrate the ability of our engineering sector to innovate in order to provide our customers with full solutions that are specific to their applications.

Analysis of the dynamic behaviourSince the first wire rope isolator model marketed in France, Socitec has continuously managed to develop this technology in order to make it increasingly effective over time.
From development to the standardisation of its isolators, Socitec brings together all of the skills inherent in the design of suspensions based on elastomer or metal components.

Since the early 1980s, Socitec has opted for the PC platform and develops its own IT tools for dynamic simulation in order to integrate the rigidity and non-linear shock absorption characteristics related to the geometry and materials the isolators are made of into its calculation models.
Currently, our latest generation of Symos software offers a very intuitive user interface in a Windows environment. Familiarisation with it can be achieved immediately and it enables all the mechanical problems related to frequential and transient static and dynamic calculations to be dealt with quickly. This new version is scheduled for marketing in late 2006.

Computer-Assisted Design In order to guarantee the mechanical strength of the suspended structures, in the mid-1980s Socitec decided to round off its provision of services by also offering to provide its customers with the validation of structural designs using finite elements simulation.
Subsequently, we opted for the ANSYS software for drawing up our calculation support files, as this software is universally recognised for its capabilities and the validity of its results in the field of mechanical simulations.

It should be noted that all our designs are now done using SolidWorks 3D CAD software. The whole 3D library of Socitec’s standard isolators is available on demand.

- Manufacturing Department

The first wire rope isolator manufactured in Europe left the Socitec workshop in 1978.

No fewer than 10 operations are required for its production :
Preparation of the interfaces, marking, winding, compression, straightening, dimensioning, deburring, cleaning, inspection and shipment.

Starting with what was initially almost a cottage-industry manufacturing unit, Socitec established a production plant enabling it to adapt itself optimally to its customers’ needs.

Special tooling and automation have been developed in order to guarantee the performance characteristics of the isolators, particularly in terms of checking the tension of the wire ropes during winding, and the repeatability of the mechanical characteristics.
Furthermore, the great flexibility of its production chain, combined with a policy of stocking components for each isolator, enables Socitec to be extremely responsive and to be able to deliver prototypes and small production runs within tight deadlines.

- Control and Quality Department

The production of speedometers and pedal transmitters for aircraft braking systems within Socitec up until late 2003 has always oriented our quality objectives towards those applied by the culture of the aerospace and armaments sectors.

A bit of background : Socitec received RAQ3 accreditation from 1983 to 1987, RAQ2 accreditation (NATO AQAP IV) from 1987 to 1998, and JAR 145 from 1999 to 2003. For its production of isolators, it has established a quality management system that ensures full traceability for all its products.ts.

Thus, the wire ropes used for manufacturing our isolators are purchased in accordance with Socitec’s own specifications. If not, selection is carried out at our suppliers’ premises after acceptance based on in-house samples in relation to the dimensional characteristics, the static rigidity, and the dynamic rigidity.
Likewise, the geometric and dimensional characteristics of all Socitec isolators are carefully checked throughout the production chain.
All these data are archived for a minimum period of 10 years.

Socitec underwent a BVQI audit in February 2005 and received ISO 9001 (2000) certification on 8 July 2005.
